Shola Introduces Us to the Plantation.

This monologue takes place after Mona is transported back in time.  Mona who is now Shola introduces us to the plantation, Shango, Nunu, and Joe.

I'm Shola.  I'm a house slave on the Lafayette plantation.

I was raised in the big house with Joe and Lucy and trained to serve the Lafayettes.  Ya know if you was born a slave like me it was easier to accept things like they was.

But on the Lafayette plantation we had folks like Nunu and Shango.

Shango, he had come from the West Indies and he was sold to the Lafayettes 'cause he was a trouble maker.  And I loved him - oh I loved Shango.

And there lived as the memory of part of my past - Nunu.  She's all strength, passion, and tenderness.  Ya know Nunu was brought from Africa.  And even though she's there with the rest of us in spirit you can see she's still livin' in her birthplace latchin' on to her memory of her homeland.

And Joe, her son is a head slave.  [In] fact he's one of the most trusted headslaves.
