Free African Society
It was formed on April 12, 1787.
It was set up like a church and it served the black community.
It gave aid to the widowed, the sick, and the jobless.
It regulated marriages, taught thrift, censured drunkenness, condemned adultery, and attempted to improve the morals of the members.
Richard Allen believed that in lifting themselves would lift all black people.
