Sheryl Anne Howard Clayton
was born on May 17, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. She
received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M, a master’s in library
science from the University of Illinois, a master’s in counseling
education from S. Illinois University, and a Ph.D. from S. Illinois
University. Clayton has held positions as English and math teacher, and
librarian. She is the author of Black Men Role Models of Greater St.
Louis, Black Members of Congress and Their Speeches, and Black
Women Role Models of the Greater St. Louis. Clayton is a member of
Alpha Kappa Alpha, and the Christian Women of the New Wave. She received
awards including, Salute to Women in Media: Top Ladies of Distinction, and
Outstanding Leader in Education.
