Charlotte Brooks
was
born on June 5, 1918 in Washington D.C.
She received her bachelor’s from Howard University, her
master’s from New York University, and her Ph.D. from Walden University.
She taught in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. public school systems. She
also worked as a consultant in education for the Brooks Association.
Brooks served on the board of directors of Southwest House for ten years;
as chairperson of the Youth Task Force of SW Assembly; the Commission on
the English Language NCTE; etc. She was the author of works including, They
Can Learn English, and Communicating, and editor of African
Rhythms. Brooks had received awards including the NCTE Black Caucus
Award, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Award for undergraduate studies.
