Creating Web Pages with
Microsoft Front Page
Introduction
This semester, you will be asked
to insert hyperlinks into written materials and place them on the Web. You will
also work with other students on a group project that will be presented to your
classmates as a website. The software that you are most likely to work with is
FRONTPAGE. This software is on the computers in the lab where our classes will
meet and it is on most campus computers. To ensure that everyone is familiar
with the basics of creating a web page using FRONTPAGE, your first assignment is
to follow the directions in the following tutorial and create a web page ABOUT
yourself.
Your page should include the
following:
A PHOTO
Please
note: you can scan one in
Instructional Tech Services, (1st floor Forcina Hall); you can use a
digital camera in ITS and upload the file to your TCNJ account; you can insert a
link to a photo that you already have on the Web and use it. The staff in ITS can show you how to
access your TCNJ web space (http://www.tcnj.edu/~your tcnj e-mail
name)
For
all of the following, you may use text and/or images (e.g. a family photo or a
statement about your family).
YOUR
NAME
YOUR HOME TOWN ( link to website for your home
town)
FAMILY (text and/or photo and or link to website
if appropriate)
MAJOR AT TCNJ (link to the TCNJ website for your
major)
(text; images; audio; video and/or
hyperlinks to websites would be appropriat for all of the
following)
CAREER GOALS (talk about your goals. Use text and/or
images and/or hyperlinks)
HOBBIES
EMPLOYMENT (if
appropriate)
FAVORITE SUBJECT
FAVORITE BOOK
FAVORITE MOVIE
FAVORITE ENTERTAINER
Design
Color can ruin some web sites.
You want to be sure to use color but don't over do it. Background images are
nice but often make the text hard to read. Be sure that any background image
compliments your text and graphics.
Be sure to regularly check your
page in the Internet browser that you will be using.
To do this click on
the display in browser button.
This will launch the browser and
show your page in the browser on your computer.
Microsoft FrontPage does a great
job creating web pages but it isn't exactly WYSIWYG (What you see is what
you get).
Getting
Started
Create folders within the folders based on
your menu items. Example: Family,
Home town, hobbies, etc.
Opening
FrontPage
3.
From the
file menu choose 'New,' and select 'Normal Page.'
Ready to
Begin?????
Click on one of the areas to find
out how to create/use the item.
Save your finished web page to
disc and bring to the second class meeting. If your file is too large to save on
a zip disc call the HELP DESK (x 2660) to find out how to save it to the
network.
